June 29th and
30th
Went out to eat breakfast this morning (29th). (A good time to meet the locals—smiles!) We are trying another RV park
today. This one is more
“downtown”, so the view is not as gorgeous, but the walk down to the ocean is
only 3 minutes. The benefits—free
showers! Most RV parks have pay
showers up here--$3.00 for 8 minutes.
Me? I am fine with that,
but Matt would need $6.00 just to wash his hair!!! Oh, the RV park also has free WiFi—never mind that
downloading is so S-L-O-W. I am
trying to add 8 photos to the last blog, and so far, it has been 11
minutes…just checked—one of the eight is uploaded!!! It is all about the small successes!
Tonight, Matt wants to watch the local skateboard and bike
competition at the skate park…should be fun. Okay, it is a new experience, lets just go with that!
Hey, it was fun!!!
Meet a few of the local teenagers; they are quite an interesting
group. They definitely have the
“duds and the tudes”—smiles!
First round for the advanced group
Sunday morning (today) we tried a hike at Chilkat State
Park (north of Haines)—Mt. Riley Trail.
We were able to do 2 of the 3 miles up. The hike was a difficult one—rocks, roots, bogs, branch
bridges…I am so proud that Matt was able to get that far. We deemed it “coordination
training”. (He sorely misses
Kombido and his martial arts family.
Matt is definitely more enthused about THAT kind of physical training.
SMILES!)
On our return to campground, we stopped to sample some
smoked salmon…yummy! Yes, we
bought some!!!
I think we will head toward Anchorage tomorrow—a three day
drive for us (18-20 hours). In
other words, it may be a bit before another entry. Hope everyone is well and happy!
On the Mt. Riley Trail--lush and wet
(More green for Jen in Afghanistan)
Fungus on a fallen tree...yes, really, it was beautiful!
The glacier between the two peaks--definitely a WOW blue!
So beautiful!!!!
